Portraits with purpose
I’ve been getting my hair cut at The Barber Cave in Bedford for years, so when they told me about their idea to support mens charities in the form of a calendar of portraits, I jumped at the chance!
They were supporting The Man Cave, a Milton Keynes based charity focused on men’s mental health and wellbeing. Alongside that, the team wanted to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK, bringing two important causes together under one project.
The idea. Create a calendar featuring twelve of their regular clients, real people not models, photographed in their own natural style.
They asked me to take the portraits.
“I insisted on no forced smiles or awkward posing!”
We kept it nice and simple, relaxed, and a few laughs along the way. I insisted on no forced smiles or awkward posing! Just honest photos that show the character and confidence of each person who sat in the chair.
It’s been brilliant to collaborate with people I know and see regularly, all coming together for good causes. The calendars are being sold to raise money and awareness, and it’s great to see the local community getting behind it.
I’m proud to have played a small part in something that supports two important causes. If you’d like to see the finished results head to my instagram page, I’ll be posting them between now and Christmas. Or get down to The Barber Cave and buy a calendar!
